When it comes to nutritional products, BUYER BEWARE!! The vitamin and supplement industry is grossly under-regulated and seriously over-hyped.
I began taking a handful of nutritional supplements at the age of 14 at the recommendation of my football coach and because my parents had a bunch of them in the house. Always an avid reader, I began researching what I was taking. This has led me to a working list of companies that primarily do two things
1) Quality Control and Testing: Are the ingredients that are on the label the only ingredients that are on the label, or are the products “tainted” with other ingredients not listed?
2) Research ON THE FINISHED PRODUCT: Has the finished product once it has been consumed been tested to show that it actually does what it says when you ingest it?
Very few companies actually have a “yes” beside these two simple criteria. Shaklee, to my knowledge, out-paces the industry in these two criteria.
One easy way to check the first criteria and see if a nutritional company is worth its weight in the ink it wastes on health claims is to see if they are a part of the Council for Responsible Nutrition.
“In addition to supplements being regulated by government agencies including Food & Drug Administration and the Federal Trade Commission, members of the Council for Responsible Nutrition voluntarily adhere to a strong code of ethics, dosage recommendations, and manufacture dietary supplements to high quality standards under good manufacturing practices.”
Member companies of the CRN, like Shaklee, not only meet FDA and FTC regulations, but go above and beyond meeting voluntary standards for product quality and purity. While I have found very sound and reputable companies that are not a part of the CRN, it is always the safest first place to look when attempting to evaluate a product line.
The second criteria- research on the finished products- is a little harder to dig up. What typically happens is something like this a, b, c process:
a) Resveratrol is a powerful antioxidant from the skin of grapes and also found in Red Wine. It has been referenced in over 3,000 research publications, as well as multiple studies conducted by Harvard University, the National Institute on Aging, the National Cancer Institute, and the National Institute of Environmental Health Science. One of the numerous benefits claimed from resveratrol is improved cardiovascular health.
b) Company X puts Resveratrol in their product and calls it “Super Product Z”
c) Company X claims that their product, “Super Product Z”, improves cardiovascular health because it contains resveratrol
The problem here is that there hasn’t been a single study done for or by Company X on “Super Product Z”. It might have significant amounts of resveratrol with needed cofactors that support this health claim, but then again it may not. If research has not been done on “Super Product Z”, after ingestion by humans, then the claims for that particular product are not backed by research.
Shaklee stands head and shoulders above the industry in terms of both quality control and research on finished products, and here is why:
*Each bottle of Shaklee Nutritional Supplements goes through as many as 1,000 quality control and purity tests before it arrives at your door
*Shaklee does over 80,000 annual tests for product quality
*Shaklee launched one of the first nutrition-based skin care lines which is supported by 7 patents and a million dollars in clinical testing
*Shaklee has spend over $250 million dollars in clinical research and research and development on its products
*Shaklee has published over 100 scientific papers, 90 of them published in peer-reviewed journals
*The average customer has been using Shaklee products for more than 17 years.
*Shaklee products were a part of the largest study in history partnering with UC Berkley School of Public Health analyzing the long-term impact of supplementation. The study concluded that the people that took Shaklee products showed markedly better health than people that took no supplements or other brands of multivitamins.
So why am I partnered with Shaklee?
I believe nutritional supplementation in the soil-depleted, fast-food crazed, processed-nutritient environment of the United States is necessary to maintain optimal health
Shaklee goes above and beyond the strickest regulations to ensure that what is on the label is in the bottle
Shaklee sets the bar for the nutritional supplement industry in regards to research being done on the finished products.
That is why I am proud to recommed to you the #1 Natural Nutritional Company in the United States, Shaklee.
